The Democratic Party wing of the Pro Democracy Movement

The Democratic Party is the organization that can most effectively limit the damage that Donald Trump causes. Therefore, it must be the main or primary vehicle through which those of us who are in the Pro Democracy Movement fight Donald Trump. Vice President Kamala Harris won more than 75 million votes, only 1.5% or 2.3 million votes fewer than Donald Trump won. No other organization can choose a leader and presidential candidate in this country with anything close to this kind of support.

It is clear that Republicans in Congress will not put any checks on Donald Trump's power or evil choices. There are no checks and balances against Donald Trump with a Republican Party in control of both chambers of Congress and the Supreme Court. Most of the president's domestic agenda must be realized through passing legislation. While Donald Trump's Republican Party has only a narrow margin in the House of Representatives and does not have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, they still can pass damaging legislation if they are united in supporting it. On the other hand, if the Democratic Party retakes the House of Representatives in 2026, then we can stop any damaging legislation. While the president has much more power in foreign policy than domestic policy, he still needs support in Congress for much of his foreign policy agenda. We must make sure that we retake control of the House of Representatives at a minimum in the 2026 midterms.

Right now, Donald Trump's popularity in opinion polls is at parity. This is because the American people were enraged when they endured a pandemic and pandemic driven inflation. While angry at having to endure the pandemic and pandemic driven inflation, the voters were not looking for a solution to pandemic driven inflation or they would not have elected the across the board tariffs and mass deportations guy. They simply expressed their rage and sought to break things. It was a completely irrational choice. Donald Trump is benefitting from the anger of the voters. When he breaks things, their wrath begins to be satiated. They are happy that he is breaking things. One example of this would be his tariffs and another would be mass deportations would be a second. These voters feel they are expressing their own anger in these destructive policies. Thus, Donald Trump's polls are temporarily high and buoyed by his honeymoon.

However, destructive policies destroy and as the destructive effects of these damaging policies become manifest and Americans are hurt by them, then his popularity will wane. Across the board tariffs and mass deportations will both drive prices and inflation higher. As Americans experience this, a majority of voters will oppose him. The longer he is in power, the more that voters will hold him accountable for the damage he does while in office.

Fascism, the removal of our liberties, and hurting the middle class while boosting the oligarchs, are not popular policy outcomes. Democratic Party Leaders in Congress must clearly and boldly fight against Trump's fascist agenda and pro-oligarch agenda. Polling and the election results might seem to suggest that a majority of voters want Democrats in Congress to work with Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress, but they only want that bipartisan work to be to improve their lives, primarily by lowering inflation and prices. It is a mistake to believe that the best choice is to work with Donald Trump on anything other than that which directly helps the American middle class and poor, especially lowering inflation and prices. Donald Trump is not doing anything to lower inflation or prices. He is foisting a fascist and unpopular agenda on the American people.

The vast majority of Trump voters are not voters we can win over. We need the support of everybody in the pro-democracy movement and that movement is, theoretically, much larger than Trump's natural support, his polling equilibrium. While he pursues his fascist agenda and an agenda that will drive inflation and prices up, he will, as the damage from his policies becomes manifest, hemorrhage support. If Democrats in Congress and the Democratic Party leaders boldly resist and fight back against Trump's fascism and bigotry and damaging agenda, then their support will dramatically increase. This is what our universe of potential support and voters is looking for. The Democratic Party and our leaders in Congress are a near nadir in polling because their natural supporters and the rest of us in the Pro Democracy Movement are looking for leaders who will fight back against Donald Trump, his fascism, and his terrible anti-American agenda.

When we tell the voters that Donald Trump is a fascist and then we fail to take every opportunity we have to oppose him and we confirm his nominees, then we are giving voters a mixed message. Donald Trump truly is a fascist. Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and extreme nationalist political ideology characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, and forcible suppression of opposition.

Donald Trump clearly is far right and seeks to expand his powers far beyond historical limits, his slogan is Make America Great Again which is clearly nationalist as are the ways in which he tries to justify tariffs, is trying to centralize power and does not tolerate disloyalty, has clearly forcibly suppressed his opposition, and has talked about using the American military against his perceived political enemies. Donald Trump clearly fits the definition. When we offer bipartisan cooperation to him, we are sending a mixed message to voters. We need to use every rule for each chamber of Congress we can to slow down his evil anti-American agenda. It is the norm for the Senate to confirm the president's nominees. That normally makes sense because more voters voted for the president than for any other candidate in any other election in the country. Therefore, unless a nominee is disqualified by character or extremist ideology or unqualified, the president gets their nominees confirmed.  However, here, the president himself is disqualified and he is a fascist. Therefore, it is appropriate to vote against all of his nominees. An alternative position can also be argued. Donald Trump did win not only the electoral college, but a plurality of the vote. Therefore, we should vote against those of his nominees are clearly disqualified or clearly unqualified.

We should, at most, only vote to confirm those of Donald Trump's nominees who are not clearly disqualified or clearly unqualified. Democrats in Congress should only support legislation or other acts by Donald Trump that help the American people, particularly the poor and the middle class, especially by lowering inflation and prices. All Democrats in Congress should give the same clear and concise message consistently: Donald Trump's fascist agenda takes away your rights, but it does not lower inflation or prices. On the contrary, Donald Trump's policies are driving inflation and prices up.
